Kabsa Dish by Riyadh Newspaper
Kabsa is a famous traditional rice dish can be served with meat or chicken that most Saudis eat everyday at the lunch meal mostly. Also, it can be served as a dinner mostly on weekend for any gathering.
It has some economical side since it is rice and meat or chicken which can be suitable to serve more people with less money.
Other people in the GCC countries (Gulf Cooperation Council) favor this dish and retain same meaning but with another slang like (Makboos or Majboos) which means pressured.
Kabsa has a similar popularity of burger on the western culture while it comes in a different ways of preparation.
I was stunned today by a news article published on a Saudi newspaper (Al-Riyadh Newspaper).
Saudis spend not less than 4 billion SR (1 USD = 3.75 SR) yearly to eat Kabsa which is the popular food meal in Saudi Arabia and GCC countries.
The article indicated that unknown field survey had been conducted by a specialized restaurant (specialized on what? It did not mention).
The result came out alleging that the Saudis consume %80 of the total rice consumption that all GCC countries consume. Average of 48 Kilogram per single person which leads the Saudis to be on the top of rice consumers on the region.
“The Kabsa is a complete valuable meal”
Waleed Abu Rashed who is the CEO of a famous restaurant that conducted the survey said. He continues
“It is necessarily to have a high quality restaurant to prepare the Kabsa in order to be able to compete with the international restaurant that are coming to do business in Saudi”
“By have a Saudi restaurants shall help on reducing the prices that these fast food restaurant are providing. Besides, these traditional restaurants consume a fresh products which gives these meals a high value”
the CEO finalizes his statement.
Is Kabsa really a valuable meal?
Should it be categorized as junk food?

Kabsa is the number 1# reason why you see the Big belly in most of the Saudis. I hate Kabsa. I like Spaghetti.
