Recently, King Abdullah has unleashed the new Technology and Science university at Thawal near Jeddah. The university was built to be the leading university and research center in the region at several scientific fields. The heavy rain fall that happened lately has reached KAUST which impacted some of the university’s facilities. Images within this post explain more on how the university was effected and raised a very important question, Do they have at least a disaster recovery plan for the Shaheen the supercomputer center at KAUST?
The Shaheen supercomputer ranked as the 14th supercomputer center in the world. Unfortunately, I was not able to find out how much did that supercomputer cost. However, I would assume that SC cost lots of money!

Please accept my apologies and you might tell us more of what is going on over there?
No worries – it’s just that there has been a lot of pictures taken out of context with respect to KAUST, and I feel original sources are important for that reason – context
Things are going alright now, though there are a few services still out of commission, like internet and telephone service, but that is limited to isolated parts of campus
Shaheen has survived without too much complication – it’s largely the structural integrity of the homes that was our concern
This is depressing
more important than a recovery plan, i hope they have a proper drainage system to manage floods and direct them to the sea/storage
unlike jeddah which has drowned in rain and sewge water, i hope they avoid mistakes in jeddah when buikding KAUST
